The illustration of plants, machines, engines, apparatuses, buildings and devices is a specialty of illustrators who have undergone additional technical training. They create exploded and construction drawings, explanatory sectional views and model drawings according to the briefing they have received from the client. Artistic freedom is not required here, but rather technical understanding and the ability to precisely implement customer specifications. Technical illustrations depict complex issues in a way that is easy to understand and, depending on requirements, can be complex in terms of design or provide factual explanations. Floor plans, principle sketches, survey drawings or medical illustrations - the simplified, illustrative representation of technical constructions are important tools for communicating technical contexts.
